5 Top Things I Miss About Harare, Zimbabwe
Life as an expat has its bright and darker side too. I have been living in
1.Spring Jacarandas - I miss seeing jacarandas of Harare blooming. There are just so beautiful. Here is in the

2.Decent Fresh Food - I only got to know about the word “organic” in this country because everything that is sold in supermarkets has a lot of pesticides. I just miss being able to go into the garden to get an apple, carrots or vegetables. I really miss that. I have to be content with eating a lot of frozen food and tinned food here. It was fun the first days I arrived here but I don’t enjoy that at all now.

3.Family and Friends – I mainly miss my mum as most of my sisters are also living here. I miss a few friends but to be honest a lot of them are living as expats too in different countries around the world.
4.Seeing people in the street and being recognised - To me it’s just relating to other people and being recognized. Back home, we’re quite friendly to people and we are open minded about it, but here, I have found locals that look strangely at me. 5.Having a good laugh - Try living in my town it sucks. I’m sure you will agree the English homour is not always the best. Its just too dry, besides I love having a loud laugh which I cant here, I have to try and be a bit more civilized and laugh the way they do.Lastly even though I said 5 I thought I would mention domestic help too. I so desperately miss it.

I was only in Harare for a few days but I remember the beautiful tree lined suburbs and the great food. Keep on laughing, the English need to loosen up a bit!
