Apparently they are the same everywhere. They do not have a good reputationHere I was just reading about them. They are called real estate brokers in the US.
In Harare you pay at least 5% commission to an estate aagent and you also have to pay valuation fees, mileage etc. I think its a a ripp off. How do they justify such cost. In the UK estate agents charge between 1.5% and 2% in agent fees and you dont pay for valuation and all the stuff. It is a competetive market. In the US its a bit defferent they charge about 5% too and thats just a rip off too.
On the flip side Estate Agents still have a tight grip in the Zim market where they still sell almost all properties. They are all memebers by Real Instute of Zimbabwe (REIZ)which states that the minimum commission and agent charges is 5%. I just dont get it. why cant i charge 1% if that suites me. one thing is clear they want to keep protecting interest of the Elite Estate Agents
Ideally, you’d like to work with an agent who is experienced, trustworthy, professional, reliable, a specialist in the area where you want to buy or sell, and someone with whom you have a good rapport. What have been your expreince in dealing with Estate Agents?
